Despite a bit of rain, the 2017 Rotary Brockville Santa Claus Parade was a great success! Moving the parade to the evening for the first time in many years brought a little bit of Christmas magic, lighting up downtown Brockville.
A total of 75 floats entered the parade, topping last year’s float count of 71. While all the floats were magical this year with lights and very creative decorations, there were three that stood out. The judges were “thrilled” with one float in particular, who “danced” away with first place: Congratulations to Thrill Dancers for winning best overall float! The Aquatarium, who were the defending champions from the 2016 parade, took second place, while Re/Max with their beautiful horses came in third. Special mentions go out to the Brockville Police Service, and Resident Marilyn Bracken.
First Place: Thrill Dancers
Second Place: The Aquatarium
Third Place: Re/Max
Honorable Mentions: The Brockville Police Service, and Resident Marilyn Bracken
Best Band: The Brockville Lions Steel Drum Band
Best Clown: Wiebe Vandervelde
Parade Committee Chair Josh Bennett was very happy with the end result, especially with the decision to move the parade to the evening. “We’re really happy with the way things turned out. Moving the parade to the evening brought out new floats, and the elements of lights. Special thanks go out to the Brockville Police for helping with crowd control, the Police Volunteer Corps for helping out with barricades, the Volunteer Center, our judges, and special thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Claus who came down to Brockville once again to wish us all a Merry Christmas!”
